DWD Executive Board and SDEC Meeting

The next Democrats with Disabilities Executive Board Meeting will be on March 7, 2009, following the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) Meeting at the Hilton Austin. Members and those interested in becoming members are welcome to attend.

The SDEC general session and committee meetings are open to the public. Committee meetings take place in the morning. The general session of the SDEC begins at 1pm but has no scheduled end time. It ends only after all business has been conducted and a motion to adjourn has passed. Anyone planning to attend only the DWD Board Meeting should plan for the meeting to begin anytime between 2pm and 5pm. It is possible that it may start later if the general session runs long.

Website Upgrade

Welcome to the new DWD website! The new website will have accounts for all members. The accounts will allow us to have forums, chat, online voting, and other great features. Accounts have been created for all existing members and emails were sent to all members with account information.

Please bear with us while we work out the bugs. If there are any members who are web designers, we could really use the help. In particular, we would like to find someone who can help us with website accessibility. You can contact us through the Contact Us page.

We encourage you to test these features and let us know how they work for you. We are especially concerned about the website's compatibility with reader software. Please let us know if you have any difficulties through our Contact Us page.

Democrats with Disabilities

We are Democrats working to increase the representation and participation of the disability community within the Party and local, state, and federal government.

The disability community is the largest minority in the U.S. We make up 20% of the population—58 million people. There are 45 million persons with disabilities of voting age in the U.S. In Texas, there are 4.6 million persons with disabilities, and 3.5 million are of voting age. We include members of every other ethnic group, economic class, age group, sexual orientation or identity, and interest group. We are African-American, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, young, old, rich, poor, male, female, straight, gay, veterans, and pacifists.

Join us in making sure that the voice of the disability community is heard in the Democratic Party, all 50 state capitals, and Congress.
